July 4, 2016 Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Trip

Day 4-Family time and a trip to the Grand Canyon (PA)

When do we start to feel old? Sometimes when muscles decide to no longer work for you and work against you, maybe.  Jen and I decided to go to the PA Grand Canyon this morning for our activity.  We did this nearly 20 years ago, and remember it being a fun time.  It's a beautiful one mile 'turkey trail' to the creek below, with creek water cutting through the rock to Pine Creek below over millions of years.

I was originally going to bring the bikes with us to ride some rail trail after, but decided not to at the last minute as we've already ridden the trail and will be riding our bikes plenty this trip. It turned out to be a good idea.

We started the trip down.  I had my 20lb camera backpack/gear on my back this time. Jen Avery and GT had their water bottles. Jen gave me socks to wear on the way down in the van.  I forgot the socks.  My toes blistered on the way down (on top) as my sneakers rubbed against them on every step.  Eventually we made it to the waterfall, which was basically the 2/3 point--the point before hell, err the steps.  Going down wasn't so bad.  Coming up brought back memories of kids running up hills and adults trying to catch their breath every five steps last year at sleeping bear dunes.

We're flat landers--I know this--what I find funny is that I've been practicing my walking for the past five months by walking around the S.O. a mile every lunch, only rain holding me back. I also told the kids I didn't want to hear them bitch b/c they haven't been walking on a regular basis.  How wrong was I to say that?  Karma?  Wow.

After we got back we hung out with Vicki and Dave, ate dinner at the Valley Inn-(subs of course) and went to check out Ernie and Alicia's beautiful ranch home on the hill. Unfortunately our ritual July 4 fireworks viewing platform was not happening due to rain, but we were able to see them from the house--just out in the street, under an umbrella a few houses down.

Today July 5, my hammies are killing me, but I guess I'll be able to rest them for a few hours as we head toward Grand Isle Vt. Let the adventure leg begin on this tour!

The falls were reduced to a trickle, but still beautiful

All smiles, before the hike back UP
