Fall in Pennsylvania

We took hikes on Sundays
In the brisk autumn mid-mornings
after church and Sunday school
and sometimes after fall festivals
Regular Sunday brunch with grandparents
and LOTS of cousins, uncles and aunts.

Me and my family bonds;
siblings and parents;
light leather jackets and striped sweatshirts.
Number shirts and imaginations.
The custom furry Suburban with the cushy cargo
to get us to our destination.

A start in the park,
the gates, swings and chain climbers
Running wildly, dangerously. the change of season
crunching under our feet.
Leaf piles and leaps.

The trail leads north
over rocky paths thru Ash, Maple and Elms
Strenuous climbs at the time
made easy by the youth and limber.

And then, a possible picnic or some treats
after we reach our spectacular viewpoint
culminating our afternoon
with ooh's and aah's,
pointing. Calming breaths
to hopefully--do it again soon.
